"Connecting Professionals to Communities"
Developing opportunities for future health professionals
to receive their clinical training in underserved areas,
and recruiting faculty committed to working with them
Health care workers often return to practice where they were trained,
and students learn
from experience that it’s rewarding to work in underserved areas.
That’s why AHEC connects
young people, students and practicing professionals to training opportunities
with minority
and disadvantaged populations, in rural areas and inner city neighborhoods.
Partnering with medical and other health professions schools, we connect
students with professionals trained by AHEC to be preceptors, who share
knowledge and experience in the context of their day-to-day practice.
AHECs recruit training sites. We arrange housing to immerse students in
the community.
Our cultural competency training provides professionals with valuable insights
into their patients’ attitudes and behaviors, as well as potential
barriers to communication,
compliance and care.
